You might be aware of Gnome Activity Journal which is awesome.Here is the tutorial to get it installed in just three copy paste commands-

1)sudo add-apt-repository ppa:zeitgeist/ppa

2)sudo apt-get update

3)sudo apt-get install gnome-activity journal

The anpa utility takes a newswire service feed (ie. AP, UPI, BayCity, SportsTicker) that conforms to the ANPA-RI specification from a tty or file and outputs a RFC-822 (mail.local or rmail) style file that can be injected into some data stream like USENET

or Internet mail. It can also do things like send the article to printers, fax machines, pagers or run any application such as one that would toggle a data line on a printer port to turn on and off a lamp via a solid state relay.

Antiword is a free MS-Word reader for Linux, BeOS and RISC OS. It converts the documents from Word 2, 6, 7, 97 and 2000 to text and PostScript. Antiword tries to keep the layout of the document intact.

a2ps is an Any to PostScript filter. Of course it processes plain text files, but also pretty prints quite a few popular languages (66). Moreover it has the ability to delegate the processing of some files to other filters (such as groff, texi2dvi, dvips, gzip etc.), which allows a uniform treatment (n-up, page selection etc.) of heterogeneous files.

CURSEL is a freeware FMLI (Forms and Menu Language Interpreter) implementation for Linux and UNIX. CURSEL interprets Menu description files, which are simple text files, describing a character GUI (Menus, forms, text files) for character terminals (xterm, vt100, etc.). Pipes, shell escapes, backquoted expressions, and file redirection are supported, and when compiled with ncurses 5, CURSEL supports color.

apsfilter is a printfilter plugged into the lpd print spooling system. It saves you the work of looking for and using filter programs to convert your file into something suitable for your printer.

CLPQ December 10, 2009

CLPQ is a little printer queue program that runs in a Console, and monitors the printerqueue. It can also remove jobs from the queue by selecting them with the cursor keys and also it’s possible to set an alarm on a job. It’s still in development and currently in alpha stage.
